of us have noted that science has often made a statement that is presented as a
matter of fact, only to later admit that it was wrong.
The trouble with science is that it is a closed community of people who
have had old ideas drilled into them as they work on their degrees. This has made the discipline stagnant. How can any new ideas be accepted when everything is judged
in its accuracy and validity according to the prevailing body of ideas?
The end result is that nothing fundamentally new can be arrived at.
This is now a hot topic in the philosophy of science.
The
set of rules and assumptions in science are known as a paradigm.
The only way that the present paradigm can be tested is for there to be a
whole new paradigm with which to contrast the reigning paradigm.
This is also true of the disciplines of prehistory, history and
archeology.
